Shizuoka University Faculty of Global Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation menu JPN Home About Outline Dean’s Message Addressing the Sets of Future Challenges Three Courses Our Faculty Education Educational Features Curriculum Study abroad Fieldwork Learning Advisor Career Three Courses This faculty aims to develop competent individuals who can jointly grasp and consider multiple perspectives by studying a wide range of academic fields – from humanities and social sciences to natural sciences – beyond the conventional academic disciplines. In terms of emphasizing the exchange of diverse knowledge that transcends the boundaries of academic disciplines, this faculty consists of one department with three courses. Students choose their respective course in their third year of study. The courses are the following which correspond to one of three key future issues. Global and Local Social Design Challenges for people to live more creatively and harmoniously in this world Various issues such as the disparity between wealth and poverty, discrimination and exclusion, and conflict and opposition are occurring around the world – preventing people with different values and cultures from living harmoniously with one another. Based on understandings of diversity and the relationship between local communities and the greater international community, this course aims to tackle local issues with a global perspective. These goals include establishing human rights, laws, social security systems appropriate for internationalized local communities, and by creating an inclusive living environment that can also facilitate an appropriate response to disasters. Additionally, the course seeks to develop capable individuals who can collaborate with all kinds of people from different walks of life to carry out solutions for the challenges to enhance attractive features and values for living in a community (culture, industry, and everyday life to name a few). Course objectives To build human rights, laws, and social security systems appropriate for an internationalized society To examine inclusive living environments and disaster response in local communities where diversity exists To create opportunities for individuals and a society to collaborate creatively through art and culture Features of the curriculum Studying a wide range of subjects based on sociology, cultural anthropology, law, art and culture, architecture, among other fields. Developing the ability to consider social issues ever-present in international and local communities and to craft plans for solving key problems Acquiring a wide range of communication skills in addition to language skills Green Transformation Sciences and Technology Challenges to create new values and a sustainable and cyclical society The course aims to develop competent individuals who can contribute to the construction of a sustainable society from both technological and institutional perspectives in order to 1) address issues such as climate change, biodiversity, and environmental pollution, 2) renew resources and energy, 3) implement a green economy where nature and economy function harmoniously, and 4) reduce damage from natural disasters, which are increasingly intensifying in scale. Course objectives To develop technology such as renewable energy and to implement it into society To respond to disasters which are continuously worsening due to climate change To implement a green economy where nature and economy coexist harmoniously Features of the curriculum Understanding cutting-edge technologies and mechanisms of human society with regards to recycling and regeneration of energy, food, biomaterials, social infrastructure, ecosystems, etc. Studying a wide range of fundamentals of disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, biology, laws, economics, and sociology Developing problem-setting &＃038; problem-solving skills for the symbiosis of the earth (biosphere) and human society Integrated Human Sciences Challenges for individuals to continue to question what human beings should be and to realize well-being actively As one’s well-being is affected by various factors, including the body, mind, and surrounding environment, this course aims to study human well-being through a variety of disciplines, such as sports science, psychology, physical science, law, and ethics. Since it is indispensable for human beings to live together with AI and robots in the advent of Society 5.0, the course also seeks to develop competent individuals who can examine the differences between AI/robots and humans and the ensuing effects on human life and happiness in Society 5.0, and finally to continue to question and realize human happiness in an ever-changing society.
